Initial Reaction:
When I see this photo I feel curious. The questions that I would ask are; What is she feeling? What is she thinking about? Where did she get the flowers from? What time of day is it to get such a solid shadow? Is she wearing prison clothes?

Analysis:
The focal point for me is the flowers. This is because they are the brightest point of the photo due to the natural side light. There is repetition and pattern with the flowers, their shadows and the lines on the girls shirt. Secondly, it is taken on an angle and the shadow is angled which makes the photo more interesting. There is also lots of contrast and value between all of the dark gray and black arenas with all of the light white areas.
Interpretation:
A girl who is deep in thought or admiring her flowers that she had just picked. Since it is black and white it gives off a deeper more emotional sadness feel to the photograph.
Cultural Context:
This photo was taken in the morning when the sun is out, in a classroom by a window. The photo was taken on a slight angle to include the shadow of the flowers. The connection that this photo might have with our present society or future society is that, no matter how much darkness or sadness (represented by the shadows) are in your life, you must look at the bright side (the pure white flowers in the sunlight). The other connection is that we need to admire, love, and take care for our earth and all the nature.

Yes, I do feel that this photo is successful. This is because it has several elements and principles of design, it leaves the audience with questions, and it shows a very obvious emotion which can change the view for others. I wouldn't change anything about this photo. My initial reaction as not changed.
